Odisha's geographical placement has always put our state in the heart of natural and man-made climate calamities which has inevitably increased in recent years. Odisha, yet again, has been struggling with the aftermath of a major flood, with thousands in need of food and resources while the COVID situation making matters more complex.
Odisha floods have received minimal coverage on national media while whole villages have turned into rivers. The current COVID-19 crisis and a constant threat of heavy floods, cyclonic storms while battling constant poverty has made the victims of the floods twice as vulnerable, if not more.
In addition to the loss of life and property, they have to deal with repercussions of the raging pandemic with very less or no precautions against the virus, making them more prone to infection.
This fundraiser is a joint initiative of two local organizations- Project Raahat, that started in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the local chapter of the global movement, Fridays For Future.
All proceeds will be utilized to provide relief materials, rations, and proper protective gear against COVID-19. Our target locations focus on the worst-hit villages of Banki and Jajpur where people have been rendered homeless and the victims to relief ratio are largely uneven.
