VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:

Hello! We are artists who use different mediums of storytelling. And as artists who work extensively with children, we’ve really come to realise how much the pandemic has impacted them. They’ve actually suffered the worst losses through these times. So many have lost family members, their parents, their siblings. They miss school, they miss their friends. And the little rituals and habits that their lives revolved around before the pandemic. And most of all, they’ve missed touch.

Many of the older children are feeling hopeless around the future, especially because they have received little to no support during the pandemic. And so we want to work on a project that acknowledges this sense of loss and grief and how it settles in our bodies and we hope that in acknowledging it we can perhaps begin some sort of healing from it.

Yeah, but why talk about loss and grief to children? Why don’t we just focus on the positives and move ahead?

We believe really passionately that denying the loss, denying the grief is in no way healthy. The healthiest way to move past this is to acknowledge what sits in our bodies and listen to it. So we are imagining these explorations and questions to take the form of an animation film that uses stop motion and puppetry. And our collective art practices of storytelling, performance-making, and puppetry allow us to address what is a very difficult theme with some distance but also with imagination. There’s also a lot of magical light possibilities with this one... there’s colour, light, shadow, sound, movement, rhythm, so many things that make a difficult topic very accessible for children. And this form of animation is created entirely manually and is only filmed with a camera.

We look at this animation film as a sort of a learning resource that can be accessible to many children, from their houses, from their schools, maybe activity centers. We want this film to be a conversation starter on how our bodies carry wisdom and how we can get a sort of language to speak about our emotions, our feelings.

We actually already begun work on this project. This past month we have been throwing materials together, we’ve been researching, doing a lot of fun stuff. But to take this project forward we need your support now. We are looking for a seed fund of one lakh rupees. This will help us source more material, get some digital creation apps those kinds of resources, and also give ourselves an artist’s fee.

So if you are as enthusiastic about this project as much as we are there is a link to the fundraiser!

Please support us with any amount of money that you are able to. Every little bit helps. Thank you!
