Hello, my name is Om Shingala. I'm a Grade 10 student at an International School. As part of my personal project at school, I've been studying and photographing a local tribe known as the 'Thakars' that live close by.

Over the last couple of months, I've observed their way of life and had discussions with them. Life for them isn't at all easy. They are a very poor community, that live in homes with thatched roofs, no electricity, no proper water facilities, no proper education etc. They depend on the forests for their livelihood and walk several kilometres to make ends meet. I realized I was blest and I needed to reach out to them. My Instagram account '@clickedbyom' has a fantastic collection of my tribal photographs.

After my discussion with the children at the tribal community, I realized they lack stationary as their parents find it very expensive and since some of them don't have electricity, studying at night is very difficult. So, I planned to buy them stationary, notebooks and solar lantern which can be easily recharged.

The price of a solar lantern is 500/- and I wish to buy 25 lanterns which would work out to 12,500/-. I also wish to raise money to help the children in that community by sponsoring their education. School fees for one student at Gurukul English Medium School, Lonavala is 12,000/- for the year. So, as discussed with the head of school, a deserving child could be given a scholarship of 6,000/-. So, we can provide a scholarship for 5 students for the academic year 2020-2021.

Please join me in helping them and let's give those children a better future.
