About Smokey -
Smokey is a 4.5 month old male Indian pariah dog who was born in a mother-less litter of 6. The naughtiest of the lot, this baby won’t let you go unless you have given him belly rubs or booped his snoot once. He’s very friendly with other dogs of his age but plays with the younger and older ones with equal enthusiasm. He’s a spoilt brat who eats just about anything.

Their Story-
Six months ago, I came across a small litter which was born in one part of our college. Word spread quickly about the small puppies and next thing you know they disappeared. After five days of frantically searching around, we get to know that they were thrown away to an extremely remote location on the boundary of our university near to the forest where they had been starving and crying relentlessly. They were dumped in a cardboard box and they were just 21 days old. 21 days!
We started taking care of them, even made a house for these babies but we knew that if we didn’t find homes soon enough for the 6 of them, they would suffer the same fate as they did earlier. Despite several cries for adoption, we got only 2-3 queries for just one of them who has now been adopted by a kind family in Gurgaon (Damru). In this process, we also lost one who died due to circumstances that were unknown to us and whose body was disposed off even before we could get a whiff of what had happened.

We knew nothing was possible for the remaining four of them in India and we reached out to organisations who worked in getting Indian street dogs adopted overseas. Next thing we know, three of them - Clove, Heeva and Kishmish flew to their respective homes in Vancouver, Canada just in time to celebrate Christmas with their new families :’)
This has been nothing less than an enlightening, beautiful experience knowing that our pups are finally where they deserve to be - having a warm, soft bed of their own, a furry sibling to play with, going on long walks in the woods and sleeping along the fireside.

But, the journey isn’t over - Smokey, the last from this litter is still waiting to go to his forever home.
Everyone still asks me - ‘That’s a lot of money for a dog’ or ‘Why can’t he just stay on the streets’. Well, I have seen dogs die of hunger and the terrible heat during the 3 month long summer break when no student is present on campus. They desperately look for food in empty dustbins. Knowing all this, if i don’t help him and the others, I will never be able to sleep at night and make peace with myself.
We have until 20th of January, 2020 to collect the required funds which will be utilised for -

Transportation to the Airport
Flight Charges
Crate Cost
Microchipping and Blood Tests
Cargo Handling Charges

Pet Travel agency charges
All I really want for this Christmas and the new year 2020, is to be able to send my Smokey to his forever home in the US. It just requires every one of us to contribute in every way we can. Please understand that no donation is small or large - everything makes a difference and brings us closer to the goal of sending Smokey home!  As you have supported us in the past, we’d like your support this time too. If whatever we do resonates with you, please do consider donating towards this cause :')
Kindly also spread the word and share in your circle.
