Mrs. Geetha. S, 30 years, twin pregnancy, delivered the babies has been diagnosed as hypothyroid during antenatal period on thyroxine supplementation and she has been immunized. She has been taken up for LSCS under SA. During procedure, she lost 800 ml blood for which she was transfused with 1 unit of PRBC. Though she was stable and shifted to ward, she developed breathing difficulty, hypotension for which she has been shifted to another hospital for special treatment where she has been diagnosed with amniotic fluid embolism (An amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) is a rare childbirth (obstetric) emergency in which amniotic fluid enters the blood stream of the mother to trigger a serious reaction. This reaction then results in cardiorespiratory (heart and lung) collapse and massive bleeding (coagulopathy)).
Though several medical procedures have been adopted, her hemoglobin and platelet continued to remain low. She is conscious, obeying commands, afebrile and on alternate days she is on hemodialysis, hemodynamically stable on minimal vasopressor requirement and intermittent NIV support.
The treatment to save her so far cost a sum of Rs. 19,00,000/- and it may go up by another 5 to 6 lakhs approximately. Her family’s income is only Rs. 8,000/- per month. She is in absolute need of financial support as the family has spent all the savings and money borrowed. She must recover to take care of the Children.
