    This fundraiser will benefit

    Mr. Domba Shettigar

    from Udupi, Karnataka

My name is Dr.Vasudha Devi and I am here to raise funds for my father Mr. Domba Shettigar who is 76 years old. Mr. Domba Shettigar lives in Udupi, Karnataka with his spouse Ms. Sumathi who is a retired clerk & they have two daughters. I am the elder daughter, married, and professor at Melaka Manipal Medical College, MAHE, Manipal, Karnataka. His Younger daughter is a house-wife. Mr. Domba Shettigar is a retired teacher.

Mr. Domba Shettigar is suffering from Carcinoma lung which was diagnosed 2 months ago on 07 October 2020. The only viable treatment option for him is the administration of inj. Pembrolizumab 200 mg (brand name Inj. Keytruda) every 3 weeks for 2 years as told by several oncology consultants.
Inj. Pembrolizumab is very expensive and hence I have enrolled my father into the Keytruda Patient Access program (KeyPAP) of the drug company, MSD in which 100 mg of the drug will be given free of charge and we have to buy another 100 mg which costs Rs. 2,10,400/- each time.

My father has already received the first dose of the drug on 27 Nov 2020 at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. The cost of hospital admissions, investigations, and medicines in the last two months was  Rs. 4,38,576/- which was managed with medical insurance and savings. The treatment cost for the next 6 months treatment is Rs. 20, 00, 000/-  (Cost certificate attached) as estimated by the treating oncologist.

At this juncture, we need financial assistance to cover the cost of the medicine, inj Pembrolizumab at least, which is around Rs. 16, 83, 200/- for the next 8 doses for 6 months.

Please come forward to support this cause. Any contribution will be of immense help. Do contribute and share this campaign link with your friends and family.

*Me, Dr. Vasudha Devi, proud daughter of Mr. Domba Shettigar*, would want to share messages/appeals from his beloved students here. My father had taught me maths in 8th and 10th standard. But I had never seen him as my teacher and I feel, therefore, did not recognize his qualities as a great teacher.  Messages are pouring ever since his illness was disclosed on Milaap. I wholeheartedly thank all students of my father for coming forward to help him. Your support and wishes are keeping our hope alive and giving us the strength to deal with the tough situation.

Here are some messages:
Mundkur Vidhyavardhaka Alumni Association

Hello to one and all, I’m sure you all have had a rough year due to the pandemic. However, I’d like to draw the attention of all the ex-students of  Vidhyavardhaka  Junior College, Mundkur to the situation at hand. To those of you who aren’t aware, our beloved teacher Shri Domba Shettigar is suffering from a respiratory disorder and is hospitalized for the same. Mr. Domba Shettigar is a dearly beloved and highly respected teacher who has devoted many years to our school. He was one of those few teachers that took pride in what he did and worked passionately towards becoming a very valuable faculty member. From patting us on the back for the things done right to staying back and giving extra classing for those lagging, he has gone above and beyond. And today he, unfortunately, is not just fighting his way to overcome his health issue but is also struggling to keep up with the medical expenses. His daughters are trying their very best but are falling short. Therefore I truly believe it’s time that we as students go above and beyond to help with his medical expenses. I understand that times are tough but any contribution is valuable.
