Due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak and the lockdown following it, there is bound to be a significant impact on the lives and livelihoods of daily wage earners. These are the testing times for the ones who earn their livelihood daily. Under the prevailing circumstances, the daily or contract wage earners are the worst-hit because they are dependent on their daily earnings to meet their basic needs.
There are people in every city who toil every day for a few hundred rupees and are exploited daily for their strength and hard work. These are the people who do all kinds of jobs just to make ends meet. They pick up garbage, walk miles to collect trash just for few coins, clean your sewage pipes without any protective clothing, and face all sorts of weather conditions in makeshift huts.
These people during the current lockdown are going through a very difficult time. With no work on their hands, they are passing their days and nights in utter hunger. Their kids sleep on an empty stomach and most of them are already undernourished. Their plight is different from ours. While most of us are struggling with the boredom and wondering what to binge-watch today, these people are wondering how to feed themselves. They don't know where their food is going to come. Agreed that the government has already initiated the plans to feed them. However, by the time, it reaches them they won't able to get their hands on it as they don't even know how to access such things. It is a long wait until such aids reach them. Hence, I urge you all to take a step forward and help them. Let's do our part. Let's help the ones who can't fend for themselves. For you, it may be an amount equivalent to one month of an online subscription but for them, that same amount is an equivalent of one month's ration.
