Neurofibromatoses are a group of genetic disorders causing tumors to form on the nerve tissues. These tumors can develop anywhere in the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
30-year-old Faijaan developed the tumors when he was a child, and they grew as he grew. Initially, they appeared as two red dots, one on his cheek and one on the forehead, but as time passed, the dots developed into tumors, deforming his face. In the beginning, his family left his tumors unattended, but later, when they grew worse, they took him to medical experts.
The doctors diagnosed Faijaan with neurofibromatosis and informed the family that he would require surgery to get rid of the medical ailment. However, given their poor financial condition, the family could not immediately arrange funds, postponing the operation. Later, they took Faijaan to Aligarh, where he underwent his first three surgeries, for which the family went under debt amounting up to Rs 2 lakh (USD 2,641.30).
Somehow the surgeries worsened Faijaan's face, placing the family back to square one and under debt. But, they did not lose hope and went from one hospital to other in different cities, seeing treatment for Faijaan. However, he could not seek the treatment he required because of his poor financial condition and returned home with pockets full of crushed hopes.
Faijaan's family has seen him suffer throughout his life in front of their eyes. His tumor has taken over most of his face, making it difficult for him to eat, sleep, or even breathe. Moreover, as if his medical ailment wasn't a struggle enough, Faijaan suffers at the hands of society. He stays inside the four walls of his home because as soon as he steps out, people run away from him. Moreover, even children mock him in public and call him a 'wolf'. Apart from that, Faijaan is also unable to attend social gatherings like his friends' weddings or funerals. All these societal problems eat him from the inside, hitting him worse than the disease did.
Burdened with his financial predicament, Faijaan is now on the verge of giving up. He has left everything to fate and awaits someone who would help him in seeking treatment. He expresses his financial inability and his only desire to get better to lead a tumor-free life. With hopes of getting treated properly, he seeks financial aid from society, urging people to support him during these testing times.
