The funds raised will help -

1] SHELTER
At present because of the COVID-19 pandemic and no income, many transgender and gender non-confirming persons are homeless and have no place to return to as they have been disowned by their biological families or they left their house because of extreme stigma, discrimination and physical abuse.
Mitr Trust is proposing a request for shelter for transgender person in this time of pandemic which will provide secure accommodation for transgender persons who are at risk of or have been subjected to violence, although shelters contribute far more than just a safe place to stay. Shelter will provide essential aspects of protection, services and resources which will enable transgender person who have experienced abuse, to rebuild self-esteem, and to take steps to regain a self-determined and independent life.
With proper resources, shelters will have the capacity to provide the range of protection and support services necessary to help survivors and those at risk of violence to avoid future abuse. Shelters can also contribute to awareness-raising and social change as part of broader efforts to prevent violence against transgender person and effeminate Kothis altogether.

2] MEDICINE
Transgender women are around 49 times more likely to be living with HIV than other adults of reproductive age with an estimated worldwide HIV prevalence of 19%; in some countries the HIV prevalence rate in transgender women is 80 times that of the general adult population.
Most transgender living with HIV are confidential about their status due to stigma and discrimination and are on life saving Drugs. As many of them are unable to get their medicine due to covid-19 curfew situation or because of no income, Secondly, they have lesser access to medical facilities. While the state is struggling to get its public health management on board, only the privileged are able to access healthcare facilities amidst this global pandemic. The transgender community faces susceptibility to infections, weaker immune-systems and lack of insurance, these factors further add onto their woes. Their testing for coronavirus seems distant as of now. A majority of them worry that those of them who are suffering from HIV may not get access to ART drugs.
Also COVID-19 has not only caused transmen and transwomen in Delhi to be stuck in unsupportive quarantine spaces, but also increased the inaccessibility of regular testosterone shots for transmen and Antiandrogen shots or pills for transwomen and gender affirming surgery.
There is a need to provide them with these life-saving drugs, HRT medication along with any other medical help they require.

3] FOOD
A large number of transgender-persons don’t even possess basic documentation such as an Aadhar Card, Voter ID or birth certificate. Therefore, they remain outside the scope of normal government social security schemes such as pension and rations. The government’s COVID-19 scheme also does not identify the needs of the transgender community. Many state governments haven’t even tried to address their requirements as basic human-beings.
We would provide transgender person with Dry ration and some cash who somehow have managed their own stay but no food due to no income.
Although there is uncertainty over how long the current COVID-19 situation will last, it is very likely that the need will persist in the coming weeks and months. We are requesting your support in order to keep the community afloat during these difficult times.
