Mimaansa is an organisation that works for students with Learning Disabilities in under-resourced schools under the Thane Municipal Corporation. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has brought the country to its knees, we have decided to help the students in every way we can.
Our students have been exposed to the worst reality of the pandemic, hunger and no resources, being at the top of this list. Our students already have the fewest of opportunities which are also under threat due to the dreaded virus.
We, at Mimaansa, simply want to provide these students with basic necessities to be able to continue their learning. We are starting a fundraiser to give 4000 students a basic school kit that will consist of :
6 notebooks, 10 pencils, 1 sharpener, 1 eraser, 1 scale, 1 pouch, 4 pens and a small colouring set.
The TMC will soon begin a programme to reach these students online, however, there is great uncertainty over whether our students even have the basic resources to be able to study online, a fact that so many people take for granted. With this basic kit, our students have a modest chance of beginning the school year with things that their parents cannot afford to provide them.
We know that this is a droplet in the ocean of support they need but we must start somewhere. The pandemic will hopefully one day die down but the learning of the future generation is at a risk and we cannot have that stall.
A minimum contribution of INR 300 will support one child to begin the academic year with the basic requirements and can reduce the burden for these communities for at least the first six months.
