    Miko Elijah Belocura Vasquez

    from New Delhi, Delhi

“I don’t know if my husband abandoned us or something bad happened to him, but he is nowhere to be found at this time when my children and I need him the most.”-Eloisa Belocura, mother of 14-month-old Miko.

Ever since her son Miko was diagnosed with severe liver disease, life has been very difficult for Eloise and her family. The frequent trips to the doctor coupled with costs of medicines took a toll on their lower-middle-class finances. Her husband used to do odd jobs to support the family, but it was never enough. Now, Miko’s condition has worsened to the extent that he can survive only with an urgent liver transplant – but her husband is no longer in the picture, leaving an unemployed and distressed Eloisa to fight a lonely battle.

“My poor Miko has never had a normal day in his life”

Baby Miko was born healthy, but within 2 weeks his skin and eyes started turning yellow in color. Eloisa was also alarmed to notice that he passed pasty, white stools. A trip to the local clinic in their small town in the Philippines revealed that the child was suffering from biliary atresia, a severe disease of the liver in which ducts carrying bile (which is important in the digestion of fats) are narrow, blocked or completely absent. “He just started getting worse with every passing day. He was either always crying or very irritable. Then soon, his stomach started bloating and he experiences severe itching now. No medicine can make him better…he needs a transplant soon.” says Eloise.

Fearing for his life, this mother does not leave her son’s side for a minute now. “I try to make him feel better by showing him funny YouTube videos. He giggles a lot then but stops when his bloating tummy starts hurting. It is very sad to watch him suffer.” adds Eloise.

Eloise wants to save her son by taking him to India, but she can do so only with your help

After speaking to mothers whose children underwent the same ordeal as Miko, Eloise has decided to take her son to India for his liver transplant. However, money is the biggest obstacle standing in this mother’s way. “After my husband left, I had to move to my sister’s house as I didn’t have the money to even pay rent. With no job and money, I am living at her mercy. How will I be able to fund my trip to India, let alone the transplant?” asks a worried Eloise.

How you can help

Eloise desperately needs help to save her ailing baby Miko, who has a damaged liver. She needs money to go to India and fund her son’s emergency liver transplant. Miko’s condition is deteriorating with every passing minute; he needs your help to survive.

With your kind contribution, this baby can get a new lease of life
