I want to bring to attention one such NGO called Liza’s Home which is a small care facility for women with physical and mental disabilities. Located in Bengaluru, the centre was started in the late 1980s by Dr. Molly Abraham, who started it in the honour of her daughter, Liza.

Based on our interaction with them, here are some of the crucial issues currently faced by Liza’s Home that need urgent attention:
- No source of income. During the pre-COVID times, members of Liza’s Home were actively involved in making pickles, jams, juices, spice powders, woollen garments & doormats. They would then go on to sell their work at churches, big gatherings and functions. Post the pandemic, all their activities have come to a halt thereby creating a massive need for a source of income.
- Depression medicines are expensive. Because of the prevailing pandemic and a subsequent lack in funding, there has been a decline in the number of visitors visiting the home, who used to cheer up the residents. Also they are not able to afford the depression medications recently.
- Shortage of caretakers and volunteers. The owners have had to manage everything on their own ever since the onset of the pandemic creating an additional burden. Due to her old age & the challenges that come with it, Mrs. Molly has been facing challenges running the home by herself. At this point, any help will be much appreciated! :)
