The need
With the second wave of coronavirus sweeping the country many families at the fringes of society have been forced into poverty. Specifically, menstruators across the country are facing new challenges in accessing safe and hygienic sanitary products.
What happened?
The women living in shelter homes have been left to fend for themselves due to the employment crisis pushed by the COVID-19 pandemic. They resort to using unsanitary methods like cotton and newspapers to fulfil their menstrual needs that further increase the risk of contracting infections.
The existing taboo around menstruation has coupled with the preexisting inefficient healthcare system. This deprives around 80% of all Indian menstruators from access to necessary period products. There has been a further decline in the accessibility and availability of menstrual products. Menstruators in these shelters cannot afford commonly available products.
Our organization aims to focus on this unmet gap of providing period products to marginalised menstruators by focusing on the three A's: Awareness, Accessibility, and Affordability.
Who are we?
Pratisandhi Foundation is a registered non-profit organization under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013. We strive to increase awareness about sexual health and menstrual education in India. We promote gender equality and open conversations about sexual health in the public sphere.
Our Target
We are looking to raise 1 lakh rupees to meet our goal. Your donations will be used to buy a set of period products for 1000 at-risk menstruators in residential shelters.
Our volunteers will ensure that a set of period products are made available to menstruators residing in shelter homes. Pratisandhi has partnered with Homes run under the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) and Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan (PMSYM).
How can you help us?
We seek your help to meet our goal. We request each one of you, kindly consider contributing to this fundraiser. Please remember that no amount is too small, and could mean the difference between infection, hygiene, and menstrual dignity for the beneficiaries.
Every donation of Rs 75 will allow us to support a menstruator with disposable products for three menstrual cycles and every Rs 250 allow us to support a menstruator with a set of four reusable sanitary products that last three years.
