The care givers at the home, desperate to curb this behaviour began scolding her, reprimanding her, but to no avail. She would cry, sob, hit and eventually stopped talking to all the adults in the home.
Most adults were expecting her to behave as young children are expected to behave; Greet, play and follow all that adults say. We could not see the pain behind the angry face, kept enforcing our rules and kept saying you’ll be left if you keep behaving this way.
Scared, lost shalu refused to follow, cried, sobbed and stopped talking to anyone. The result was yet again abandonment and this time with no one around, locked in a room, all alone.
"Adults failed to notice the pain hidden behind Shalu's Anger."
Trauma from experiences such as abuse, neglect, poverty and inhuman treatment can have a huge impact on a child's life.
I Am Wellbeing's initiative Udaan provides individual therapy sessions to children, adolescents & young adults from marginalized communities, struggling with trauma. It creates a contained space for emotional support and provides healing for the young lives to grow.
We want to raise funds in order to provide that much needed healing and therapy for the young lives who are survivors of difficult life circumstances. Support us in breaking the cycle of inter-generational trauma.
