பெண்ணிய அரங்கக் கூடல்

நாம் வாழ்ந்துவரும் காலம் நெருக்கடிகளே தினசரி வாழ்க்கையாக மாறியுள்ள காலம். அது இயற்கை பேரிடர்களானாலும், அரசாங்கமோ அல்லது பிற மனித நிறுவனங்களோ, உருவாக்கும் நெருக்கடிகளினாலும், காலை எழும்பும்போது காரிருள் சூழ்வது போல் உணர்ந்தாலும், உலகை மாற்றியமைக்க வாழ்நாள் முழுதும் உழைக்க, அதற்கான வாழ்முறையில் வாழ முடிவெடுத்துள்ள எங்களுக்கு எங்கோ ஒரு ஒளி காரிருள் ஓரத்தில் தென்படும். அந்த ஒளி சோகத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தி புண்ணாறும் பாட்டாகலாம்; கோபத்தை முன்வைத்து உரிமை கோரும் முழக்கமாகலாம்; சத்தமின்றி மெதுவாய் நம் உடல், உயிர், இருப்பினுள் நுழையும் நடனமாகலாம். எனவே எமக்குக்  கலை ஒரு முக்கிய வடிவம்.

தமிழ்ச்சூழலில் சமூக மாற்று நோக்குடன், குறிப்பாக சாதி, வர்க்கம், ஆணாதிக்கத்திற்கு எதிராக, புதுக் குரல்கள், உடல் அசைவுகள், மரபு  கலைவடிவங்களின் மறுஆக்கம் எனப்  பல வகை கலைப்பணிகளைத்  தொடர்ந்து 35 வருடங்களுக்கு மேல் செய்து வரும் பலருள் அ. மங்கையும் ஒருவர். மாணவ சமூகம், பரந்த சமூக வெளி, இலங்கைத் தமிழர், மரபுக் கலைஞர்கள் ஆகியோரை பங்கேற்பாளராகவும் பார்வையாளராகவும் கொண்ட கலை வாழ்வு தமிழ்ச்சூழலில் பலரைப்போல் மங்கைக்கும் 40 ஆண்டுகளாக உண்டு. அவர் அறுபதாம் பிறந்தநாள் காணும் 2020ஆம் வருடம் ஜூன் மாதத்தில், அதைச்  சாக்காக கொண்டு தமிழ்சூழலில் பெண் மற்றும் பெண்ணிய அரங்கம் பற்றிய இரண்டு நாள் கூடலை நாங்கள் ஏற்பாடு செய்ய விரும்புகிறோம். இந்நிகழ்வில் மங்கையின் பல நாடகங்கள், அவருடன் பணி புரிந்த எங்களால், தயாரிக்கப்பட்டு மேடையேற்றப்படும். அதே சமயம் தமிழகத்தில் உள்ள பெண் அரங்க படைப்பாளிகளை தலைமுறைகள் கடந்து ஒன்றுகூட்டி அனுபவ பகிர்வு நடத்தப்படும்.

இந்த கூடல் வரலாற்றை நமதாக்கிக்கொள்ளவும், அதில் எழும்பியுள்ள சவால்கள் பற்றி கலந்துரையாடவும், அதிலிருந்து எழும் நம்பிக்கையை அன்பாய் தழுவவும், ஒரு முயற்ச்சி. இதனால்  புத்துயிரும் பொலிவும் நமக்கும் நமது கலைப்பணிக்கும் வந்தடையும் எனும் அவாவுடன் இந்நிகழ்வை நாங்கள் நடத்துகிறோம். ஒன்றுகூடுவதில்  எழும்பும் நம்பிக்கையும் வலிமையும் நம் அனைவருக்கும் இன்றைய அரசியல் சூழலில் மிக அவசியம். அதற்கான  ஒரு சிறு கீற்றாக இந்த நிகழ்வு அமையும் என்று நாங்கள் நம்புகிறோம்.

இந்நிகழ்வை நடத்த தேவையான செலவிற்கான வேண்டுகோள் இது.

உங்களால் முடிந்ததை கொடுக்குமாறு கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறோம். ஒரு சிலரின் நிறைய காசைவிட, பலரின் பங்களிப்புடன் இந்த நிகழ்வு நடந்தேறினால், எங்களது கலைசார்ந்த அரசியல் புரிதலான கூட்டு முயற்சி, ஒன்றுகூடிய ஜனநாயக ரீதியான செயல்பாடு ஆகியவை மெய்ப்படும்.

We live in a time when conflict and destruction are no longer the exception but the norm. It may be natural disasters or conflicts created by State and non-state institutions and individuals. It often feels like a dark cloud looms over us. However, those of us who have chosen to live with the purpose of changing the world to the best of our ability, always see a silver lining to these clouds. That could be a song that expresses deep sadness and thus helps with healing; it could be a slogan that demands rights in its quest for justice; It could be dance that quietly moves into our body, soul and our very being. Art therefore is an indispensable part of that hope.

A. Mangai is among the many theatre practitioners in the Tamil context who have worked for the past 35 years towards creating art that - seeks to be part of social change; is against the oppressions of caste/class/patriarchy; reclaims and recreates traditional art forms; and has given us new voices: movements. Students, society at large, Sri Lankan Tamils on the island and the diaspora and traditional artists of Tamil Nadu have been participants and spectators of this work by Mangai, among others, for the past 40 years. We would like to use the opportunity of Mangai's 60th year to organise a celebration and a conversation on women in Tamil theatre and Feminist Tamil theatre. Those of us who have worked with her over the years will present some of her productions as excerpts or in full, and they will be performed during these two days. We would also like to bring together women and feminist theatre practitioners in the Tamil context, across generations to have conversations about our work, its history and the challenges ahead.

This gathering will enable us to claim our history as our own, to face and address our current challenges those we will continue to face and to gain hope from our collective energy. This event is an attempt at revitalising and nourishing us all. Such nourishment is much needed at times like this.

This is a fundraising call for this event. Please contribute any amount you can. No amount is big or small. We would rather organise this with small contributions from many than with the financial support of only a few. That will then be true to our principles of a democratic ethos and collective functioning.
