    Maminka Jelly

    from Kochi, Kerala

Maminka was dumped on Cherai Beach, Kerala, one day before she gave birth in 2019. She followed every human she she saw mistaking their stick wagging as a sign of affection, perhaps play, and being just a year old had no idea how to look after her pups in the strange surroundings.Thankfully she was at Ocean View hotel, they have a 'live and let live' attitude to the dogs. Maminka and her 2 pups, she'd had 3 one died soon after birth, lived under the boat that operates as seating for the restaurant. Maminka followed people down the beach, obliviously roaming too far from her newborns and through areas guarded by territorial packs of dogs where, as an intruder, she was instantly the number one enemy. In the first two weeks we would look for Maminka on our daily feed run, escorting her back to her babies whom she seemed to have forgotten. The Ocean View area pack turned a blind eye, she being a nursing mother although her disregard for their personal space, especially whilst eating tried their patience, they would chase and let her flee.
The male pup was taken and Maise who remained, became her mother's sole playmate.
At 8 weeks old @cheraitails took in Maise to vaccinate, sterilize and home her. By then Maise was following her mother who chased cars so couldn't be left any longer. We continued to feed and keep an eye on Maminka as the situation with the pack grew more intense, at the time we weren't able to sterilize adults and had nowhere to keep Maminka. Slowly, Maminka moved out of that territory down the beach and found a gated villa that no dog had claimed. The caretaker was kind, there was a small pop up cafe across the road where she'd sit when it was hot, whilst the other dogs slept, and sometimes get scraps. Then the pandemic hit. I had surgery during the first lockdown. During the second lockdown we started feeding the beach packs, they were starving..Maminka specifically was very emaciated, so although we did her area only every other day, we made a special run daily to feed her.
Carly, an American tourist moved in to the villa in front of Maminka's  and Maminka moved in with her immediately. As a consequence on day 3 of Maminka being out in the open, the territorial pack attacked her leaving her needing stitches.
While Carly was there we were able to sterilize Maminka, Carly providing post op care and we delivered her food.
No home was found when Carly left 6 months later. Day 3 she was visibly scared and hiding. Not having the room to take her in forced me to have her sent to a shelter where she'd  be caged. We almost had her homed once but that fell through.
Now to cut a very long story short. Maminka has been offered a forever loving home in Canada.
It's a lot of money and a long way but she only has one life. Maminka deserves to be loved rather than caged as much as the rest of us.
Please share and donate what you can ..when people collaborate miracles happen.
