INDIA accounts for over a third of the world’s population of malnourished children – one in every three children in the country fall into that category. And this was even before the coronavirus struck. Now experts fear the numbers will be catastrophic.
194 million Indians are undernourished. Recently out of 117 countries, India ranked at 104 at the Global Hunger IndeX
Starting from intra-uterine life till early childhood, and during school age attempts must be made to ensure children receive appropriate nutrition. Under nutrition and infections such as diarrhea, respiratory infections, malaria, TB etc. are inter-dependent and form a vicious circle.
Unfortunately, a sizable portion of Indian children suffer from under nutrition. Low food intake as a result of poverty, ignorance etc. are some of the main causes of under nutrition.
