This is for my mother who has been handicapped since birth as she was affected by Polio since the age of 6. Even with her disability she has worked as a teacher for 38 years in schools that cater to the less fortunate and lower income families. As age has caught up with her she is not mobile like she was before. She likes to be independent in moving however since she can't we have to carry her and put her on a manual wheelchair that we could afford from a local flea market. Unfortunately this is her only means of transport as she cannot get into cabs or auto rickshaws as she will have to stand on her feet to get in and her age, body strength has depleted and this is a nightmare task for her to do. We have experimented with vans from neighbors with sliding doors that allow her to not make much effort to get in and also we've been successful in sliding her in with the wheelchair. I am trying to raise funds for 2 causes for her. 1. to be able to purchase a Van (we've found luck with the Tata Winger for the ample width and space it offers) and modify it to allow maximum comfort for her travel. 2. to be able to purchase a motorized wheelchair.
