A Brain-Stroke turned
the world upside down for my Mother and My
Family -  Need your Support

My name is Harshit Sharma and I am here to raise fund for my Mother Leena Sharma. My mother has been diagnosed with a brain stroke, with her right brain  rendered non-functional. On April 9, 2022, my mom, Leena Sharma, age 48, who is
a high blood pressure patient, suddenly experienced an episode of numbness
followed by an inability to breathe normally.

We took her to a hospital in  Chembur called Swastik Hospital, where she
was subjected to MRI and other tests. Despite showing an "arterial
block", the doctors misjudged the enormity of the condition and didn’t act
on it immediately, just kept giving her regular medicine.

While still in the hospital, on the 11th of April at
6.30 am, she got a stroke on the right side of her brain, which left the left
side of her body paralyzed.  In the
evening, another MRI was done as a follow-up
.  This time, the doctors at this hospital
simply gave up and said that they couldn’t do anything and that my mother would
have to be shifted to a bigger hospital to handle such an emergency. We lost a
lot of precious time and almost lost our mother due to their misjudgement.

We immediately rushed my mom to a hospital called Mahavir Jain Hospital
in Thane, where the doctors said that she needed an operation immediately or
she wouldn’t be able to survive. As a part of the process, they removed
the top part of the skull and cleared the arterial blockage in the
neck area.  The procedure was successful,
and the doctors say that she will survive. However, we need funds for the rest
of her treatment and rehabilitation.

They are looking at multiple surgeries ahead, including an operation to
replant the skull and cosmetic intervention as well. She is now on the
ventilator and, as she is still under observation, it is too early to say how
she will respond to the treatment.

It goes without saying that my mom will not have the same quality of
life as she did before. Our energetic, "always on her toes" and
cheerful mom will never be the same, but the least I can expect is for her life
to be saved; and for us to have the financial standing to support her for her ongoing
treatment and future medical interventions and rehabilitation.

This has not been an easy ride for us; it has left us emotionally
drained and financially almost bankrupt. I have just started work. It is my
very first job, so my earnings won’t suffice at all to run the family. My dad
got laid off during COVID and is still looking for a job. I have a younger
brother who is in college. As a family, we have been tremendously burdened with
a financial crunch. We have run out of savings due to steep medical costs involving
my mom.

We have coughed up Rs. 3 lakh till now in just 7 days, and by
the looks of it, my mom will be having a long stay at the hospital with
multiple procedures ahead. We are not even factoring in the costs involved in
regular blood transfusions and daily medicine. The doctors say that the next 6
months are going to be a decider.

It is a relief to me that there is a glimmer of hope that my mom’s life
can be saved, even though she may have a compromised existence. Doctors say
that it all depends on how my mom responds to treatment and that they are
giving their best. But then all of it comes with steep costs and escalating
bills on a daily basis. However, I am not going to lose hope and I am
going to do everything I can to ensure that she has the best quality of life
under the given circumstances.

For this, I need your support and monetary assistance. I will be filled
with gratitude for every bit of financial help that comes my way. All funds
raised will go to my mom’s treatment and rehabilitation.

On behalf of Leena Sharma, my mom, I appreciate the outpouring of love,
prayers, and support that comes from you. Please donate whatever you feel can
make a difference to my mom’s life.
