Cupa is a 1.5yr old dog who was hit by a car in the middle of the night in Lallubhai Park area in Andheri west, Mumbai. She was saved by a rickshaw wala who picked her up and safely kept her in a building premises when she was howling and crying in pain unable to move her hind legs. He was very kind to stay with her the whole night instead of going home and called a night ambulance to treat her. In the morning my team and rushed her to the vet where her blood reports and X-rays were done. The vet confirmed that Cupa has Thoracolumbar spine fracture ie fracture in the spinal cord supporting the chest and lower back. Thankfully she could eat, pee and poop by herself. On day 3, we took her to an orthopedic vet who confirmed that there is sensation in both her hind legs (one very less than the other, but there is movement). He said there is hope for Cupa but for that she’ll need surgery and the right physio to help her heal. And she’ll require a minimum of 2 months of foster care.

(Update: After MRI reports, the vet has concluded that Cupa's spinal cord is broken and cannot be fixed again after surgery too. She will need physiotherapy, rehabilitation, a wheelchair and further foster care till her treatment goes on).

We want to give Cupa a chance to normal life. She cannot suffer because of the careless of self-centred humans who think empty roads are a license to drive recklessly. She has a strong will to live and has lots of love to give and there is no way we will let our limited finances come in the way of her treatment.
