Nisarga Cyclone hit the coastal area of Maharashtra very badly, particularly Dapoli Tehsil in Ratnagiri district. Coastal area has many small villages consisting of majority of population dependent on Farming & fishing. World Famous Alphonso Mango, Areca Nut, Jackfruit & Coconuts are the main cash-crops in this area. All these crops start giving benefits only after 8-10 years of plantation. Nisarga Cyclone has severely affected these orchards and farms, which were the only source of income for the small farmers in this area. Additionally, the winds, the falling of the trees and the destruction it caused has resulted into loss of shelter for many poor families. Heavy rainfall followed by Cyclone resulted into water logging into residential houses as well. The destruction of electricity poles, cables and mobile towers has caused loss of communication in many villages like Anjarle, Murdi, Kelshi, Velas.
We have been helping the affected people on ground since day 1. Our work is focused on five worst affected villages - Murdi, Anjarle, Kelshi, Velas, Harnai.
The funds which we raise will be utilized in following way:
Relief Work Stage 1: Home Damage Repairs
Asbestos Sheets (Patra): 2000 sheets × 900 (Homes) = 1,800,000
Matichi Kaule: 15000 × 25 = 375,000
Total Estimation = 2,175,000
Relief Work Stage 2: Agriculture Revival
Mango Saplings: 6000 × 120 = 720,000
Areca nut Saplings: 15000 × 50 = 750,000
Coconut Saplings: 5000 × 70 = 350,000
Wood Cutter Chain Saw: 15 × 9000 = 135,000
Total Estimation = 1,955,000
Relief Work Stage 3: Post Plantation Support
Irrigation Repairs in orchards: 1,000,000
Fencing Work: 50 acres × 75,000 = 3,750,000
Total Estimation = 4,750,000
Gross Total Estimate = 8,880,000
The situation is extremely difficult and challenging for a common man to come out of. All that people had built over the period of years or decades has been lost in a matter of few days. Kokani people need desperate help and assistance to rebuild their lives. Any help, however small it may seem can help change people’s lives.
