Social enterprises are aimed towards bringing social change in a sustainable way.KIPO aims to start a Darjeeling based brand for ensuring a continuous income for local artists and designers.Our ultimate aim is to become self sustainable, but since we have just started we are asking for a little help.
Unemployment rate has increased by almost 24℅ because of impact of Covid on the Indian economy.It is the youth, the bread earners and majority of the working population that have been left jobless and struggling for income.In Darjeeling, many of the working populations who were previously working in cities have been forced to come back home and are currently starved of any substantial income.
KIPO a small social enterprise based in Darjeeling was founded in 2020 with the aim of helping this unemployed population,especially those from vulnerable and rural backgrounds with vocational skills to ensure they have a source of income and are able to make a decent living.
Our model is simple.We work with local artists and designers from all fields.We plan on starting projects for skill development of artists in Darjeeling, and conducting workshops on digital art, graphic design, traditional vocations etc.The artists that benefit from these skill development projects can then work with us as our full time designer or can also find work else where.We will also be launching projects exclusively for women and other marginalized communities, as we aim to make our enterprise as inclusive as possible.We have also been collaborating with local musicians and hip-hop artists to ensure mutual growth and also narrowing of gap among artists of different fields.
The second wave of Corona has majorly impacted Indian economy along with shattering public health. Staying at home and following safety protocols is very important, but it is a luxury that can be afforded by only the rich.We want to help our artists and designers who are already working with us,especially now, when they need it the most.We also want to expand and be able to implement our vision at a wider scale.
