The past 18 months have seen an alarming rise in school dropout rates. Education of over 154 crore students has been disrupted globally after schools were abruptly shut down due to the pandemic, according to UNESCO.
Despite numerous efforts by the government and organisations working on the ground, online education is not accessible to a majority of Indian students. This has resulted in children missing out on crucial education years. Online attendances have been as low as 13% during this time.
We are a group of teachers teaching in government and low-income private schools in the areas of Mankhurd and Govandi in Mumbai. Most of the families in the community do not have a digital device the children can access online classes from. The average family income is Rs. 7,800 per month. In such tough times where most of these families are facing job and food insecurity, they cannot afford to buy a new digital device which will cost Rs 10,000.
We urge you to help us bridge this digital gap in education. You can do so by:
- Making a monetary donation as per your means. No amount is a small amount, even a donation of Rs. 50 will go a long way.
- Donating your old devices. (contact Sourabh Rathod: +91 7744061955)
Please help the kids secure a brighter future by donating and spreading the word.
*All the funds donated would be directed towards buying and providing these devices to our kids for better learning!
