Beginning October 2, 2025, the Sangam is proud to launch an innovative Diploma Course in Kattaikkuttu, also known as Therukoothu—one of India’s powerful traditional theatre forms. This immersive 10-month program offers unparalleled hands-on training in acting, singing, movement, and the rich repertoire of Kattaikkuttu, all under the expert guidance of Guru P. Rajagopal and other seasoned professionals. Participants will also have the unique opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument, including the harmonium, mridangam/dholak, and mukavinai.
Graduates of this transformative course will receive a diploma that prepares them not only for roles in Kattaikkuttu theatre but also for opportunities in contemporary theatre and film.
Open to individuals aged 18 and older, this prestigious program has a limited enrollment of just 20 participants. Classes will take place at the Kattaikkuttu Sangam, conveniently located just 8 km outside Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu.
As a not-for-profit organisation representing the interests of Kattaikkuttu performers, the Sangam is committed to ensuring that its dedicated teachers—professional Kattaikkuttu actors and musicians—receive fair compensation for their work. To sustain this commitment, we are requesting a training fee of ₹7,500 per person per month, totaling ₹75,000 for the entire program.
