Kat-Katha will be acknowledging the courageous and compassionate Karigars of HeARTshala. Last year, same time, when the world was at a halt, five women stepped up and changed their lives forever for the better. Using a sewing machine, they weaved their dreams.
The pandemic unveiled the various uncertainties and insecurities that govern the complex ecosystem of the sex-trade. The need for an alternative livelihood was realized by women. In May 2020, 'HeARTshala' was born and our dream of having a skill centre at GB Road turned into reality with 3 women tailors.
HeARTshala is a space where women learn stitching and product tailoring. It nurtures women’s growth with a vision to transform them physically, socially, and emotionally. Our partners, Goonj, and InnerWheel supported us throughout the initial establishment of the project. We started with cloth masks, and now we have 6 women tailors in our team that can tailor cloth masks, cloth bags, wall hangings, scrunchies, pocket organizers, cloth earrings and more. HeARTshala has so far produced over 9000 masks, 120 bags and 100 Heart Strings.
As we complete one year of HeARTshala, we invite you to experience something like never before; a special walk on GB Road, shopping on the street of love, and some chai pe charcha with our Didis!
