Since the past 2 years Karma Foundation has expanded to ensure that we can help as many animals in need as possible.
This expansion has come at a cost which has been borne by the founder members.
We have had many questions raised by animal lovers as to why we close admissions even though we have empty kennels/cages.
We feel that the festival of lights is the best time to throw some light over these questions
# Why we close admissions even though we have empty kennels/cages:-
Have you ever wondered what happens after an animal is admitted into a medical facility? Let me share the Karma Process with you, below is the flow of work:-
1). Vitals of the animal are checked.
2). In most cases blood is drawn & sent to a lab for processing (costs approx Rs. 1000-1500)
3). Animal is started on fluid therapy & visible wounds & symptoms are treated (this involves fluids, injectables, scalp vein set, infusion set etc. which costs approx Rs. 100-200 Per Instance)
4). A kennel/Cage is assigned to the animal depending on its specific needs.
5). Further treatment is continued depending on the blood reports which last between 5 to 15 days. (Each day cost including food, medication, dressing etc. which is approx Rs. 500/- Per Day)
6). In case the animal requires surgery which is 70% of the cases we receive, animal is scheduled for surgery after vitals are all checked. Most of these surgeries are Orthopedic (Approx cost for this including plates, pins, screws etc is Rs. 8000/-).
7). When the animal is fit for release we check if it is sterilized, in 80% of the cases the animal is not sterilized in which case we sterilize the animal which. (Costs Rs. 1500/- for Male & Rs. 2500/- for Female)
8). Finally after the animal is fit for release we vaccinate the animal & release it back to its respective area.
9). If the animal is not fit for release we work on its adoption & if possible make it a permanent member of Karma.
In short, for every animal that is admitted with us we spend approx Rs. 7500/-. We charge an admission fee of Rs. 500/- which is optional & not paid by 90% of the reporters.
We cater to about 70 admissions a month which leads to an expense of Rs. 5,25,000/- Per Month, to add to it we receive about 150 OPD’s a month wherein we spend about Rs. 100000/-, again we charge Rs. 500/- for OPD which is optional & not paid by 90% of the reporters.
So where do you think the above money comes from? We will answer that for you too:-
1). We receive approx. Rs. 75000/- in form of donations, admission fees, OPD charges etc. per month.

The deficit is paid for by the founder members every month. We truly believe that animal welfare needs to be done the right way, We urge each & every animal lover to circulate this post & make a commitment to donate a small amount per month or make a one time donation so that we can sustain, grow & help the animals in need.
