My name is Kanksshi, and I dare to dream. In the words of Ellen Johnson, "If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough", and I live by it in principle. I am a development sector professional, working with a reputed think tank as a consultant, and an alumna of TISS, Mumbai.
My dream job is to build NETRI Foundation. India's first and unique incubator for women in politics, which was founded in 2019.
As a social entrepreneur, having run this entity for almost 1.5 years, I am at a stage where I need to upskill myself. According to research, Founders spends 40-60% on average of their time in fundraising. For an organisation like ours, fundraising is a key to sustain ourselves.
I have been selected through a rigorous process at ILSS's Fundraising Program to be one of their fellows. The program is the first of its kind and holds a lot of value for a person like me. ILSS is offering me a scholarship of 20% on the total fees, however, still, the program fees remain very high and I will need your help in covering it for me.
I have decided to only raise 60% of the total amount I am expected to pay to secure my admission.
Fundraising is an important skill, and required across the board. From corporates to NGOs to politicians, this skill is indispensable. The course provides us with mentorship and skills us for effective fundraising. I will be mentored by industry experts from Dalberg, Akshay Patra Foundation, Central Square Foundation, Ashoka University and more such organisations. I will be in a cohort of fellows who are chief fund-raisers in their organisations, and this once in a lifetime opportunity for me.
Being a young entrepreneur in the current day and age comes with its challenges. I constantly need to upskill myself and don't have safety deposits, FDs, bank balance to support my dreams at every juncture. But that does not stops me from dreaming, and working to build an organisation like NETRI. This program is a milestone in my journey.
