My name is Jessie Lyngdoh. I am 26 years old and I am from Shillong, Meghalaya. Growing up as a kid, my neighbourhood friends and I would always collect pocket money whole year round in order to buy Christmas presents for our loved ones. Could be a packet of sweets and chocolate, could be a tiny keychain, etc. It was an exciting feeling but also brought true happiness. Despite being the smallest gift, they were valuable. If we did not earn Rs.10 by christmas, then we would write to each other by telling them what each person meant to us. As I grew older, I learned that my father has had a Christmas tradition where he would gift all his employers Christmas cake and Christmas sweaters. His workers would still fight over choice of wear. Other than christmas carolling, there was a time where my family would cook for a few families and the joy we had from preparations to making deliveries from a van has always been my favourite christmas memory. Christmas is a time to remember and celebrate the birth of Christ and also a time to remind ourselves what kind of human beings we are.
We raise this money together to help the ones in need at the Inmates of Shanti Bhavan Mother Theresa’s house. We hope that whatever amount collected would create a huge impact on them as well as upon ourselves. Father Joby who is Rector at St. Anthony's College, will help guide me in this fundraising cause. We hope it to be a success!
