Help these kids shine brighter! Support their school fees

Indushree, aged 11, Vaishnavi, aged 9 and Harshaskanda, aged 5 are children of a cab driver, Somu Shekhar and house help, Neelamma.

Until April 2021, Somu was the sole breadwinner of the family. Having lost his job because of the lockdown in 2020 and getting entangled in the debt of a local loan shark, he could no longer support his family on his own. That is when, Neelamma, his wife decided to take matters into her own hands and looked for her first job as a house help.

During this time, as the parents tried to keep food on the table while paying off their debt, the children's education took a toll. With the schools closed and devoid of laptops, computers and internet connections, the children could not continue their education online. But that did not stop them from practising Tamil traditional martial arts with their father every morning and winning several awards. Along with her sister, Vaishnavi aged 9, Indushree has been teaching Harshaskanda alphabets and nursery rhymes at home.

Vaishnavi has a free "Right to Education" seat at one of the private schools in Bangalore. Indushree was studying at Holy Cross School in Whitefield, Bangalore. Harshaskanda has never had access to formal education.

Despite the lack of access to formal education for the last two years, the children's eyes sparkle when you ask them if they want to go back to school. Their teachers remember them as bright individuals with a lot of potentials.

Brother Maria Suresh, C.S.C., the principal of Holy Cross School was kind enough to extend a generous concession of up to 30% in the school fee of Indushree which included past dues of classes 4th and 5th as well as the new session of Class 6th.
Harshaskanda has also been offered a sibling concession of 10% to start school in LKG (Lower Kindergarten).

The total cost of the children's school fees, books, uniforms, stationery etc. is listed below.

As their mother's employer, I, Isha Vajpeyi, am submitting the fees so that the children can get back to school on November 1 as the schools open in the city. But I am also having a rough year and cannot bear the entire cost of their education. That's why I need your help.

The last two years have been hard for many people around the world. People have had to resort to desperate means. But children should not have to suffer because of this. With access to good education, we can contribute to these kids' bright future.

Let's come together for Indushree and Harshaskanda. No amount is too small, please contribute whatever you can. Thank you
