Vatsalyagram Combating Child Abandonment and Parenting By Choice

    from New Delhi, Delhi

Tax benefits for INR donations will be issued by Param Shakti Peeth

There are about 30 million orphaned and abandoned children in India. 90% of these children come from rural backgrounds. The most common cause of their abandonment is the family's inability to provide for their children.

To ease out their economic load, families leave their loved ones to die. Vatsalyagram is a project based out of Vrindavan, Mathura and is one of the projects of our non- governmental organisation Param Shakti Peeth. Vatsalyagram’s aim is to raise abandoned children in a nurturing, safe and spiritual environment.

The Vatsalyagram Aashram works around the clock. Any family or adult can come to the Aashram at any time of the day or night and leave their baby in a cot(palna) and ring a bell. After they ring the bell they can leave.
People of the Aashram are alerted with this bell and start off by doing a ceremonial puja for this baby. The baby is then assigned to one of the families living in the homes on the ashram. The family comprises of a mother, several siblings and a grandmother to look after the child. The child is then raised till adulthood in as loving and normal an environment as any child living with their parents would.

Some of the ladies are  volunteers for the Aashram and some elderly ladies are those who have also been abandoned by their families. The children are schooled, skilled, provided cultural and value education and taken care off completely until they themselves are financially independent and then go on to have their own families outside of the Aashram.

The funds being raised will help support the childrens living conditions and provide educational resources; more specifically- mattresses, fridges, stationary and washing machines. Any donations, small or big would be appreciated a lot. Thank you!
