The lockdown brought on by COVID 19 has been a time of extreme difficulty for the marginalized sections of the society. Migrant labour, people in slums, elderly in old age homes, and the destitute in the disabled are some of the worse affected groups, who have been facing starvation due to loss of livelihood, lack of a home, and dependence on others for sustenance. Even as the government has begun a massive campaign to help it's deprived citizens, it is the duty of everyone to contribute their bit to alleviate the suffering of the people.
Healthy Aging India began serving cooked food to the elderly people abandoned in old age homes and then in slums, and to migrant labourers stranded in the city without any means of earning in the coming times. We have been serving food to between 3000-4000 people every day, and have served over 35,000 meals to needy people.
HAI now wishes to provide people, who have the means to cook, with dry rations to enable them to stay at home. For 4 weeks of rations for a family of 5 members, we require Rs. 600/-. We are targeting providing relief to 1000 identified families.
This boost to the families in this time of need will enable them to tide over this rough time-period. Once the lockdown is over the families will be in good health to take up the fight for survival ahead. This way we can beat coronavirus and survive as a nation.
