Hello people, hope you all are keeping well and being happy…we, Mehul Shelke, Aarohi gupta, Ananya Mahawar, Chaitanya Mahawar, Dhiman Data, Vivaan Bhatia are reaching out to you with an intention to do our bit and help the cause of “HealStation Foundation”. The current unfortunate situation of pandemic and the subsequent lockdown has created widespread mental health issues and we can see that there is a visible spike in the cases of ‘self-harm or suicides’. Shall we shrug it off it as overzealous media reporting or if certainly, something is wrong??? It’s complex and though we deliberate over such unfortunate acts carried by high profile people or public figures, we are often ignorant about the mental health issues being faced by lower strata of our communit. Thing about those who need to work daily to have a meal but the lockdown has snatched their livelihood-what they must be going through and what keeps them going ?
We, during our campaign of setting up a library at Pune based school with “Teach for India” Fellows, came to know about the “Healstation Foundation”. Healstation Foundation is a Pune based NGO working in the tribal areas in and around the forest on Indo-Nepal Border. They are involved in the village empowerment program “kayapalat” through various projects, including physical & mental health. Please refer their website to know more https://www.healstationfoundation.org/
While talking to Snehal Joshi, co-founder of Healstation Foundation, we realised that mental disorders need to be treated for a long period of time and they are tirelessly working on it through projects like “Bodh” that deals with the mental health of school children in tribal areas and “Shifa”, a community mental health program. We got inspired by this work and pledged to engage in a Fundraising Campaign for these projects on the mental welfare of neglected tribal communities, especially the school-going children. The Fund focuses on finding and prioritizing the best approaches suitable for low resource communities in mid of constraints posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Healstation Foundation works in a phased program that requires-
Phase 1 - Mental health workers screen every family and find people who probably have any mental illness.
Phase 2 - General Practitioner with psychiatry skills or a psychiatrist diagnose and decide the treatment, and provide medicines.
Phase 3 - A mental health worker, equipped with therapy skills conducts group therapy sessions for patients and caregivers of similar mental disorders.
Phase 4 - Mental health workers follow up regularly with families of the patients to motivate them to take medicines as prescribed and evaluate the progress.
Phase 5 - Doctors follow up with patients to evaluate and change medicine course if needed.
Technology - Every aspect of this program is managed using an in-house developed mobile app.
Your support to raise the fund will help in developing the required ecosystem of mental health support to the last mile communities. We urge you to donate for these efforts of the founders of Healstation Foundation who left their lucrative corporate jobs to serve the community.
