Story

One of the most significant influences upon one's personality is, more often than not, one's schooling environment.

Unfortunately, for most students in our nation, schooling is limited to an experience of mugging up facts, formulae and word meanings in the four walls of a classroom.

As you can imagine, this not only limits your holistic development, it takes away one of the many joys of childhood- participating in external events!

Halla Bol is an attempt at creating more vital voices of the future. It is a movement that aims to amplify students' voices, irrespective of economic statuses, to enable future leaders who think mindfully, question fearlessly and listen intently before brainstorming for solutions innovatively.

Halla Bol is an inter-school 'Asian Parliamentary' type of a debate competition having participants from TFI (Teach For India) intervened classrooms from the government and low-income private schools in Hyderabad. It involves around 250-300 students competing in a 7-round debate competition having a panel of judges from various walks of life. This year we also intend to involve Non-TFI schools to get on board and make this event bigger.

Why you should donate to this campaign?

As children, we loved questions. We were fearless, critical and curious.

“Didi, why does the clock turn only right, not left?”
“Bhaiya, why can’t girls walk freely in the night?”

As we grew up, the questions reduced, the curiosity died, and we submitted. We accepted what was told to us and what we told ourselves.

Teach For India intend never to let the bubbling questions die and keep them alive through Halla Bol.
