This Pandemic has not only brought unseen grief but also has turned the world completely upside down for a few. The impact of it has been immense on school going children especially children of low-income communities where the digital divide is immense. Now the physical classes have begun but these students have been away from school for the last 18 months and are finding it difficult to cope up in regular classes.
In one of the government high school in Whitefield area, there is a considerable increase in the enrolment percentage of students compared to other low income private schools in the vicinity because parents are unable to pay fees for a private school. The student teacher ratio in these classrooms in this government school is now about 75:1. But there is a dearth of language-teachers and core subject-teachers to cope up with this huge student inflow.
To resolve these operational challenges and to bring in holistic development in children, few NGO’s including Whitefield Ready, fellows from Teach for India and Shifting Orbits have taken up the task of providing additional learning hours for these students and also splitting the classrooms into smaller sections so that each child gets individual attention.
Our immediate goals are
1. 100 percent pass percentage for SSLC
2. Zero dropout rate in high school
Our plan is to recruit teachers for additional/extra classes so that each student can learn all subjects in an effective and differentiated manner. These everyday after school sessions/extra classes will help the students needing more personalized attention and also the students who show greater promise.
We would need funds to
1. Pay teachers for these special classes
2. Provide snacks for the students during the additional hours
As they say “The architect made houses, the writer made poetry, the scientist made discoveries, THE TEACHER made them all”.
Your contribution will greatly help achieve our objective. Kindly contribute and help us to educate children.
