Goonj’s disaster relief initiative RAHAT has evolved into a reliable and time tested, need based disaster relief & rehabilitation approach that engages a network of stakeholders in urban & rural India. With systemic approach from relief to rehabilitation. Every year Goonj works through its interventions in big and small disasters from cloud burst, floods, earthquakes, landslides, tsunami to human-made disasters like fire and highlighting disasters like winters, water crisis, lost livelihoods etc. that have never been considered disasters despite the deep and persistent impact they have on the lives of people.

On 11 March 2020, World Health Organization declared Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak as a pandemic and the nation scaling up response to treat, detect and reduce transmission to save people’s lives. With COVID 19 threatening to spread like wildfire (Stage 3), business activities have been discontinued. The calamity has struck the daily wage workers and the people working in the unorganized sectors.  A lot of them are stuck in cities with hardly any resources,  jobs and without any means of  going back to their villages. With the loss of livelihoods, a large number of them will now struggle to support their families. Apart from instant support measures, Goonj is gearing up for the aftermath of this pandemic and intends to reach out to families in remote villages whose means of  livelihood are badly affected.

We are looking foward to deliver comprehensive family kits of essentials – largely dry ration, personal care material to the affected communities in areas well known for migration and related geographies.
To bring a larger impact on family income and resources, we would also look into matters of health, debt, education or as per the need of the area.
