Due to the massive resurgence of COVID 19, the vulnerable rural population is again finding it extremely difficult to survive in day-to-day life. The situation is different from the 1st phase of COVID-19 and people are now facing multiple survival crisis situations in terms of virus infections and loss of livelihoods due to restrictions imposed by the Government. Migrant populations have now started returning home as several metropolitan cities are under Lockdown for a few weeks and their livelihoods over there are lost. The rural populations, mainly daily wagers are completely in hopeless situations during this 2nd wave of COVID 19 as they haven't yet recovered from the initial phase of COVID 19 crisis. Along with the loss of livelihoods, the threat of infections in rural areas is much higher this time. Even as the state government makes tall claims on its COVID management, no proper arrangements are visible on ground, so vulnerable populations bear the brunt. People are facing a tough time to get tests and treatment. As per our volunteers working in the village, the situation is extremely grim especially among the extreme poor communities. Due to stigma associated with COVID 19 virus, they are not coming out for testing and vaccination. Also when these people affected by virus, they don't have proper place at their home to isolate themselves.
The problems don't stop here for them if they affected by the virus, they have no money to buy nutritional foods, essential sanitation items, and other protective items Above and all, the women and children of the marginalized community are most affected due to multiple existing vulnerabilities.
The current situation of Covid 19 second wave and its spread like wildfire in the rural belt of Uttar Pradesh is really alarming and there is an urgent need to intervene within the rural communities to support them in the battle of fighting with Covid19. So it is extremely urgent to address the concerns of affected rural community members through supporting them in providing support for women and children for their nutrition and safety, promote and facilitate the process of Vaccination
