The Ramakrishna Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda in May, 1897, is engaged in Spiritual and Multifarious Service activities for the society with the moto "Service to Man is Service to God" without any distinction between Caste, Creed, or Religion for the last 124 years. The Head Quarters of Ramakrishna Mission is at Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal, India. The Ramakrishna Mission Home of Service, Varanasi, a Branch Centre of the said Ramakrishna Mission, is engaged in Medical, Educational, and other service activities for the poor, under-privileged section of the society for more than 120 years.
The Institution is of Charitable Character and activities conducted by this Branch Centre are:
- A General Hospital with 195 beds with nominal charges
- Completely free - Outpatient Department, Emergency Department functioning round the clock, Community Health Service Programme serving rural patients.
- Miscellaneous Services viz. Rural Development Works, Free Eye Camps, Old Age Homes, Relief work, Free tutorials to students of poor backward family etc.
On average 7,000 patients in the Indoor and over 2 Lakhs patients in the Outdoor are treated - free or partially free for many of them in this Hospital every year. In the Emergency Department around 10,000 cases and through the Mobile Medical Unit around 30,000 patients are treated free annually. In the Free Eye Cataract (IOL) Operation Camp approximately 600 patients are operated on every year. Poor and underprivileged patients from all corners of the State and outside also come here regularly for their treatment as the charges here are minimal.
During the first endemic period, our Home of Service conducted extensive relief works supplying food articles, medicines, sanitary items, drinking water etc. to the Local poor, Rural mass of the adjacent districts, and migrant labours. For that entire period, our OPD and emergency services were fully functional; however, we had to close down the Indoor Hospital due to the non-availability of medical and other staff under the Lockdown Restrictions. As a result, the Revenue generation from the Hospital front was badly affected leading to almost zero level and has resulted in a huge deficit of around Rupees Three (3) Crores as of 31.03.2021.
During the present second wave of C-19, Varanari is worst affected. In our Hospital, we are now running two Covid Wards — one with 24 beds for general patients and the other with 16 beds/cabins for our staff and inmates.
Revenue generation is severely affected again and at present, the very sustainability of all the Service Programmes run by us are under threat. It is important to mention here that this Home of Service does not get any Financial Assistance/Grant from Central or State Government to run or maintain such noble services.
Under such circumstances, we earnestly seek your wholehearted support to continue the Century-Old Service Activities run by this Home of Service. The areas that urgently need donation/support are:
- Maintenance and running cost of Hospital
- Distribution of free medicines in the OPD
- Diet to the poor patients and their attendees free of cost
- Purchase / replacement of Equipments for Hospital
- Other Service programs
We would be ever grateful for your support!!
