Story
My brother's full name is Nadim Ismail Patel. He is 43 years old. He was diagnosed with failed kidneys 4 years ago. Life was not very good up till then, but he was trying very hard to make ends meet for his family. He is the sole bread earner and used to get up early morning to sell fishes in the morning as a part time work so that he could earn some extra money for his kids education. After selling fishes he than spent the entire day driving his auto rickshaw. He used to work 16-18 hours a day driving the auto rickshaw. This often took toll on his health but he used to eat painkillers and keep working. He knew he had to save money for his wife and children's education and future.
Suddenly in March 2015, he felt ill. And we were told that he lost the functioning of both his kidneys because of the side effects of the pain killers he took over the years. It was a very devastating moment for him and the entire family. Immediately, he had to be put on dialysis. These 4 years on dialysis have made his health weaken beacuse of the after effects of dialysis. He lost all the savings he had on his treatment and medicines. He has 2 daughters and a son. He has the burden of their health, education, marriage and their future on his shoulders.
His wife or any other family member could not donate their kidney because their blood group did not match. So he registered for a SWAP kidney transplant, where his wife will donate her kidney to another patient of the blood group matching her, whereas Nadim will receive a kidney from the relative of the patient to whom his wife has donated the kidney. The perfect match in SWAP is very difficult to find, but after a long wait, Nadim got a call from doctor saying that they found a SWAP transplant match for him. He was very happy but also worried about the heavy expenses of transplant. The total estimate of his operation and surgery is around 8 lakhs Indian rupees (INR 8 lakhs).
He earns hand to mouth to feed his family and after he was put on dialysis, he could not work regularly and because of this, their family's monetory situation worsened further. With a meagre annual income of forty five thousand rupees (INR 45,000), he would never be able to arrange for the costs of the transplant.
We are trying every means possible to help him and so, on behalf of my brother, I am requesting all of you to please contribute and donate as much as possible for his surgery. He wants to live a better life to take care of his children's education and future.
I am attaching a copy of the estimate from the hospital.
I am his brother and my name is Akil Patel.
