Teach the Ignorant- To Read, Write and Do Simple Maths

Visakhapatnam (or Vizag) is a port city in Andhra Pradesh and is often known as "The Jewel of the East Coast". It is located on the southeast coast of Bay of Bengal and is surrounded by the Eastern Ghats on the north and the west. It is spread over an area of 550 sq km and is the second largest city of Andhra Pradesh.

Most families are illiterate, Illiteracy means being unable to read, write or sign their own name, unable to read streets signs while traveling, and even unable to know their children activities, even unable to calculate change in the marketplace. 

Options for work are limited—mostly , end-up as manual labor—and dishonest employers cheat on money because they are inability to calculate.Visakhapatnam Industrial belt has a good mountain range. Village dwellers in search of employment mainly laborers have occupied these mountains.

Many become victims of alcohol and money launderers. The women and children suffer for reasons - mainly lack of literacy.

Through a year long class:

Adult Literacy programs are carried out for around 100-200 adults each year. Young-adults becoming literate, and are exposed to a world of educational opportunities, they can take steps towards the vocational goals to which they aspire.
Students not only gain literacy abilities—they also learn about hygiene, good nutrition, and gain practical business skills!
Men and women are brought from zero literacy knowledge to a 5th grade level of reading, writing, and math.

Promote good nutrition, sanitation, & hygiene
Raise awareness of basic rights—like fair wages
Encourage newly literate parents to send children to school
Teach business skills to increase family income

Goal
This project seeks to raise Rs.5,00,000/- to conduct Literacy Program and Women Empowerment including (sewing machines and fabric, Soap, Phenyl, Vaseline, Paper Covers Etc.,)  for approximately 300 women in the Industrial Slums of Visakhapatnam.
Summary
This project will provide women with the necessary skills to become economically independent and create a foundation for a future of sustainable growth.
Description
The project will have one main center where the empowerment program will be undertaken, and 10 literacy classrooms in different locations. At present there at 10 centers and 10 Teachers with almost 130 students and will increase during the course of the year. Our teachers are encouraging the local women to become literate and be capable of generating additional income to their family well-being. The make the project scuccesfully operation, there are financial needs like honorarium to the teachers, pay electricity bills, purchase Water, refreshments to learners, clothe and consumables for conducting the sewing and empowerment program:

Teacher/ Volunteer Monthly expenses
Rs. 3,000/- Each X 10 Nos X 12 Months = Rs.3,60,000.00
Electricity, Water and Refreshments Per month
Rs.1,250/- Per Center X 10 Centers X 12 Months = Rs. 1,50,000.00
Cloth and Consumables
Rs.3,000 Per Month X 12 Months = Rs. 36,000.00


Operating Cost Needed for 1 Year is Approximately Rs. 5,46,000/-
