    from Bengaluru, Karnataka

Hello,
I'm Rohan Malvi from Inventure Academy, Bangalore. In October 2019, I had started a library project with a small, un-aided school that caters to children from the lower socio-economic strata. The school is in Hegade Nagar with a student count of 80 and teacher count of 7. The original aim of this project was to get the school set-up with a good library for kids of all ages. "Siya's" library was all equipped and ready to go with over 250 books as of March 2020.

Fast forward 2 months...

As of May 2020, privileged children like us, have re-started school, and although the classes are being conducted online, we are not missing out on interaction with teachers, friends and extended family. But the children at this school are stuck, most likely in smaller cramped homes, with no access to mobiles, internet or friends. Since most of them are children of daily laborers, their parents don't have a sustained income right now. Hence there is no money to pay for tuition fees even if the school was to go online.  This is the time when we need to do something to help them so that they have normalcy in their lives.

So what started out as a library project will now evolve into an online learning project for these kids. Dr. Samuel (Principal and Founder of the school) and I have selected 30 kids from grades 6-10 who will continue their education online. For this we will need to procure mobile phones with good data connections and set them up for zoom meetings. This way we hope that they will have continuity in their education and they will rejoin the school as and when school reopens. Additionally I will also interact with them on a weekly basis so that we can "peer-vent" about the problems we are all facing in this lockdown situation. The remaining funds will go towards teachers' salaries (which haven't been paid since the lock down started) and school maintenance like rent. I will be updating here as the project moves along. Any help is help and I appreciate your assistance in keeping St Johns School running and functional.  Thank you.
