NGO DISHA is helping Raju, Kirti and scores like them from the slums of Maharashtra in garnering skills that the changing world demands. DISHA runs community centers that provide mentoring, IT/computer education, life skill trainings and general tutoring that children need in their years of growing up. Children spend time at DISHA centers after school for a few hours every day. The initiative aspires to instill confidence in these children to pursue their education, their dreams and become the beacon of change in their families and communities.
DISHA is currently running one community center in Wadali slum in Amravati with 67 enrolled children. This center was started in the year 2011 and supported over 600 children so far. The center offers e-learning till 10Th Standard, basic computer course and 10 life skills. One of the alumni facilitates the activities of the center. The life skills are scheduled and taught by external resource persons whenever required. These life skills are core part of mentoring to children that target at building awareness among children about abuse, personal safety, and their development opportunities. The center helps children to be more aware and form a responsible community. The center has become a catalyst in transforming the lives of children and working on making their future bright and secure.
This success also became with more responsibility and request to support more students and set up community centers in different areas. DISHA aims to open 2 such centers in Mahadeve Khori and Wadarpura and support more than 500 needy and bright students. The annual budget for setup and running 3 centers is INR 10.56 lakhs.
This crowdfunding initiative is to collect this sum to start and run this center by 15 August 2020. We wish a day will come where poor children won’t struggle with basic educational resources, facilities, and infrastructure in order to fulfill their dreams.
