This Milaap fundraiser seeks to enable a lesbian couple from southern India start a new life together.
Devi and Nalini (names changed to protect identity) have braved their families and walked out of their respective houses amidst forceful confinement and gender-based violence. Nalini is an artist who has lost job opportunities and been neglected by her family because of her sexual orientation and gender expression. Devi was placed under house arrest, and taken for numerous attempts at sexual orientation conversion "therapy".
Both of them have since left their families behind and are determined to be with each other. There are seeking help and financial support towards basic amenities and a flat to live in, so they can leave their traumatic past behind and start afresh.
Note: They reached out to Orinam (www.orinam.net) a 15-y.o. unregistered collective for assistance, and volunteers from Chennai and Bangalore have been assisting them. As the women don't have access to their bank account (as they had to leave the phone with OTP sim, etc. behind), one of us would be required to collect the money in our account and hand it over physically to them.
