New Stakeholders, Old Institutions

There is no longer any excuse for bewailing the hostility of those in power and simply sitting back in outraged righteousness. We must concede that any attempt to correct distortions the majority involves, amongst various things, funding direct action methods that support the minority, afflicted communities.

This fundraiser is for Maknoon, a journalism graduate from Kashmir, Mohammad Ibrar, a preserver of history and heritage from a Minority ghetto in Kolkata, Sanobar, an active community organizer and mutual aid worker from JNU, and Darakshan, a Kashmiri Nosh and a techie mother from Jamia Millia Islamia to fund their higher education in the University of Oxford, SOAS, University of Cambridge, and the University of Edinburgh, respectively.

Having been forced to give up opportunities to study at institutions like accept Ashoka University's Young India Fellowship due to financial constraints previously, they know what it means to domesticate minority/marginal discourse while forcing the minoritized/marginalized to stand out. Their entire lives, they have swung between conviction and disbelief, working hard, hoping to realize their dreams and support their community better.

I, Abu Sufiyan, believe that there can be no substitute for a genuinely engaged and sympathetic– as opposed to a narrowly political or hostile – research, no matter the person or field of endeavour.

Our community is seriously underrepresented in all spheres of life, especially academia, which lays the foundation for different business or socio-cultural initiatives. Having worked as a community organizer for the past eight years, I have seen and experienced this divide first-hand.

This fundraiser will serve as a model for my future project that will create a supportive community that will assist in mentoring and securing funding for students from marginalized backgrounds.

It is time we refuse to create a reality from which history, society, and humanity seem to have been eliminated, and I or the beneficiaries of this fundraiser cannot do this without your support.
