My house help Durga Didi's 16 year old daughter Deepa suffers from a serious case of congential cleft lip with nose deformity.

Durga Didi could not afford to get any recommended surgeries for Deepa during her infancy, which has made the surgical process complicated now.

Deepa had to be hospitalised urgently last year since she has a partially blocked nose and cannot inhale from one nostril.

We discussed her situation with the doctors who stated that her condition is complicated as she could not get the surgeries at the right time. In simpler non medical terms, she has never inhaled from both her nostrils her entire life, her palate is significantly closed and her teeth are badly misshaped.

The doctors have now advised for following surgeries -
1) Cleft Lip nose corrective surgery - 2 lakhs
2) Cleft lip and maxilla corrective surgery - 1.5 lakhs

3) Anterior cross bite cleft surgery - 50 thousand

The doctors have been kind enough and have offered to waive off their own fee and the hospital fee. The charges for the surgeries mentioned are for the products to be used and tests to be conducted. Apart from this, there is a foreseeable expense of 10,000 for medicine as well.

Durga Didi works as a cook while her husband works as an auto driver. They do not have the funds or savings to get the medical treatment for Deepa despite their best efforts.
