    Debjani Sarkar

    from Kokata

My name is Debjani Sarkar. I am 45 years old and I have a 12 year old son. On September 24th, doctors had found a tumor in my spine and decided that it needed to be operated on. After a biopsy of the tumor, they discovered I have a condition called multiple myeloma (blood cell cancer), which is cancer of the plasma or white blood cells. This cancer has been damaging my bones and my immune system. The cancer makes it hard for me to walk, eat, and sleep, things that are necessary to live. After the operation, the lower half of my body was paralyzed, and I have had difficulty standing and doing everyday tasks. My elderly parents would help me get up and get through the day as much as they could. I go through physical therapy every day to be able to walk normally again, support my family and take care of my son.

I am currently undergoing chemotherapy at Narayana Super Specialty Hospital and will need to have an autologous bone marrow transplant. This means they will take healthy cells from my own body and replace the damaged bone marrow cells. This treatment is vital to my survival. Without the bone marrow transplant I will not live for much longer. I do not have any siblings and do not have any other family who can help me afford these expensive treatments and that I can rely on. I am a schoolteacher from a middle class family in Kolkata and am having great difficulty to manage to pay for these treatments that are life-saving for me. I am the sole income earner and need to be able to get back to work and recover for my family. I need your help urgently so that I can survive. I hope that I can inspire you to help someone like me and please donate. I would appreciate any amount of funding from you. Please support me as I am relying on the goodwill of people like you. Thank you.
