I had come across Maya, a 10 year old senior indie dog when I was purchasing some materials from a hardware store. My heart skipped a beat when I first laid my eyes on her. She had the most horrific open wound I had seen. It covered her entire front shoulder and the tissue was visible. There were maggots who were eating her wound and she kept moving around trying to chase the flies away from it.
I followed and kept an eye on her for almost three hours before help arrived. With the help of a friend who had experience in handling dogs and my sister, we moved her into the car and transported her to the nearest vet.
The doctor then examined her wound and his team started to clean and apply ointment on it. The process was really painful to watch as Maya was howling in pain the entire time. He said it had been open for almost 15-20 days and was caused mostly due to some dog fight or an accident. She was then kept in foster care with my friend Daisy who works for the welfare of stray dogs as an individual initiative . Her treatment spanned over a period of two weeks during which multiple tests were conducted. Being a senior dog, there were various issues with her .She had a weak heart and needed blood transfusion as her iron levels were dangerously low. We however hoped for the best and continued her treatment during which the wound was slowly healing as well . However, one day , we got a call from the clinic informing us that she had passed away.
She didn't make it as her body gave up because of her poor health condition. We couldn't save dear Maya though we tried our best. We were really hoping for her recovery so that she lives a better quality of life .The following evening ,in a simple ceremony, we buried her and bid her goodbye .
Maya's bills have come up to Rs. 21,026. Please do help us clear them.
