With the second wave of Covid-19 hitting India, there has been a crunch in medical resources due to an unprecedented crisis. Across the country, hospitals are experiencing oxygen shortage, leading to deaths of patients which has overwhelmed the healthcare system. Many SOS messages and calls from hospitals and individuals are doing rounds on social media and volunteers are working around the clock to connect families with resources. While all this is happening, the Covid-19 hit families need help with their meals and necessities like sanitary napkins, medicines etc. The destitute, sex workers, transgenders, migrants and other vulnerable communities need help. Sarvani’s Covid-19 response has been focused on providing food and connecting plasma donors to the families affected by the pandemic.

As an extended part of this initiative, we are raising funds for those who cannot afford treatment or necessities due to the coronavirus outbreak. The urban slums are hugely impacted by the pandemic with no access to sanitation, water and food during lockdowns. The close living conditions and absence of basic hygiene facilities make the slum population exposed and more vulnerable to the contraction and spread of the virus. Chandigarh has more than 60 thousand people dwelling in slums and those living in Mohali (Punjab) and Panchkula (Haryana).

100 Smiles A Day was a Covid-19 relief response Sarvani initiated in the Chandigarh area when the pandemic hit India in 2020. We provided 5000 meals to 100 individuals every day in Kaimbwala, Maheshpur, Raila, and slums who were affected by the coronavirus during April and May. To be able to continue 100 Smiles A Day during the second wave of coronavirus, we need your help. Sarvani Covid Response Fundraiser (SCRF) is an initiative by Sarvani to raise money to provide basic facilities to the migrant community living in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali.

With the recent week-long lockdown in Haryana, we restarted 100 Smiles A Day in the Maheshpur village of Panchkula (Haryana). Starting from 10th May we will distribute 15000 meals and 500 women’s hygiene packs in Panchkula, Chandigarh and Mohali district.

Help us in our cause by donating in whatever capacity that you can, every donation matters and will help us feed those in need.
