Support the VI A students of CMS MGR Nagar!!!

“Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think”, says Albert Einstein.
The students of class VI A, Chennai Middle School MGR Nagar, includes 26 joyful, charming and highly talented children from under-resourced community. They come from a community where their parents are daily wage workers. Despite their circumstances, these kids are very eager to learn and make you believe in the power of education. Their action makes us believe in their immense potential and portrays how their decisions can positively impact the community around them.
Our vision is to create a classroom with equal opportunities for all children and to raise ourselves to think critically to solve the problems we see around us. At the same time, we focus on learning joyfully and to create a space for other students and our parents too. We envision ourselves as lifelong learners and empathetic listeners who stand for ourselves and the people around us.

Our Journey So Far

About our teachers

Ashwin D S (2014-16)
"Teaching the Grade 2 & Grade 3 students and kick-starting the journey with the students was always memorable. I had the opportunity to travel with the students since it ever began also continued the same momentum till now by supporting and mentoring my upcoming Fellows - Aravindhan (2016-18) and Cristina (now). For me everything that I do connect me back to the classroom and the purpose. The journey is more important than the destination -- and we ensure that we cherish every moment with our students."

Aravindhan Anbazhagan (2016-18)
"One class, one vision. Teaching Grade 4 & Grade 5 students, known as the 'Design Thinkers' is one of the best experiences that I had in my life. Looking back, each and every moment was purposeful and the journey had been incredible. Over the two years, the students taught me more than whatever I learned in my student life. From winning a Global IEEE Pre-University award to delivering a TEDx talk, I owe everything my classroom and the wonderful students."

Cristina Peter ( 2018-‘20)
“Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them”, one quote I can relate to when I look into the faces of the little humans in my class. Teach For India, gave me the first teaching experience in my life. The journey with these kids is to learn from them every day and to become the best version of my life. And the journey has been memorable so far.

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for the wonderful support. As the year came to an end, the funds raised have been utilized for arranging a field trip for the students to Dakshinchitra, an art gallery and to the Crocodile Bank. It was a great learning experience for the kids.

In Dakshinchitra, they received hands-on experience in pottery and jewellery making and leaf painting. They had fun seeing the puppet show. Their curious eyes filled with astonishment and joy seeing the beautiful architecture from different states in India.

In the crocodile bank, they learnt about different varieties of crocodiles, their habitats, food habitats and breeding time. They also experienced a snake show, where they learnt about snake varieties and how the snake venom is extracted.

The crocodile bank made the students aware of the need to protect our fellow animals. And they learnt how humans can live in harmony with these animals and birds. This helped to open their minds towards finding ways to a sustainable way of living.

Thank you for the support. Keep sharing and supporting.

Thank you!
