With the current stress on the hospital infrastructure in the country, it has become important to mobilise the creation of alternative facilities. The Anant National University is setting up the alternative COVID-19 recovery facilities in different states across the country with various stakeholders.
What are we doing?
AnantU is setting up 2 affordable COVID-19 recovery facilities in the Thiruvananthapuram district in the state of Kerala, each at the rural locations of Amboori and Chenkal. Each facility is equipped with a laminated corrugated board bed, bedside table and separator as an affordable alternative to beds available at the hospital. These beds are sturdy, waterproof, easy to assemble and transport, and can be easily disinfected. The university has collaborated with a local manufacturer and design firm Avant Garde Designed Studios to produce these beds which cost between 8 to 15% of the price of the conventional items. The products are also laminated so they can be spray disinfected and are not affected by cleaning.
The 2 recovery facilities, each in Chenkal and Amboori will be equipped with 25-beds, each with a bed mattress, pillow, bedside table, and separator. The facility will be handed over to the local government officials at the 2 locations, who will facilitate the support for medical treatment.
Address to the recovery facility at Amboori - St. Thomas HSS, Amboori, P.O-695505 (type-school), Kerala.
Address to the recovery facility at Chenkal - Chenkal Primary Health Center, Chenkal, P.O – 695132, Kerala.
What have we done?
The university earlier in 2020 has set up 10 such facilities across the country, where the AnantU transformed the existing infrastructure such as apartments, community halls into COVID-19 recovery facilities to provide temporary hospitals with ICUs and quarantine centres.
What is the cost to set up these COVID-19 recovery facilities?
The total cost of setting up the 2 centres, each in Chenkal and Amboori is around INR 3,95,200.00 (including the transportation cost).
