Community School of AINA Welfare Foundation

    from North Lakhimpur, Assam

AINA Welfare Foundation has partnered with KHUJ NGO (which works in improving learning outcome and creating a learning environment in the community of a child) and have started a flagship EDUCATION Project jointly named as "Community School" which basically provides after school support and study materials to the underprivileged students of Class V. We are currently working with around 350 students of 12 villages of Lakhimpur District. The students are mainly from Adivasi and Scheduled Caste Communities.
We have conducted a baseline study on the educational status of the children from these remote villages. Our finding reveals very low learning outcome among children in those communities and we concluded that the problem exist basically for two main reasons i.e. lack of after school support to the children and absence of primary educational institutions fostering quality education. On the basis of our understanding from the study we formulated a project to deal with the problems, so we started our project 'Community School' where we create a learning environment in the community and provide them with after school support to bring every child to age appropriate learning level and to cater to the need of a good school providing quality education we found that Govt. of India have set up a pace setting school in every district basically for rural students named Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalala, so we coach the students in the line of the entrance examination and also provide study materials free of cost to all the students studying in Class V, which is the entry level for JNV.
To understand the learning level of the children we conducted a baseline assessment in Arithmetic and Language and accordingly group them in different groups having similar learning level and teach them using various technique like activity based learning, group learning, we try to make the learning process of every child a fun journey and try to bring the learning level up and to the age appropriate level. So our everyday starts with Bal-Geet to energise the children and meditate to increase the concentration level and various recreational activities in between to make learning a fun process. Volunteer from the community is an integral part of our project to bring in community ownership and creating a learning environment in the community. Volunteers from outside are also engaged with us which has enhance the learning experience of every children.
We encouraged using day to day examples to make the students understand the concept, keeping in mind the observational learning technique. The whole program was accepted overwhelmingly by the whole community. Regular assessment is the testimony of the success of the program. The all programs and activities were conducted under strict guidance following COVID-19 guidelines.

Two students from the first batch of Community School, namely, Nikhil Das and Shankar Prasad Das from Vill. Dowarpara got selected for admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya securing ninety plus percentage in the Entrance Examination.

We need your support to create more Nikhil and Shankar from these underprivileged communities. The fund will be used in their reading materials, mock tests and traveling of the teachers to the community schools.
